Per Title 10 of the United States Code, the maximum number of international students at the United States Air Force Academy at any one time is 60. We admit approximately 15 international students each year. International applicants must meet the same admissions requirements as all regular applicants, however, there are differences in the application process. Read below for more details.

Eligibility
The eligibility requirements for International Students differ from that of other applicants. Each international candidate must:

1. Be unmarried, with no dependents, bonafide citizen of the nominating country and be of good moral character. Meet high leadership, academic, physical and medical standards.
2. Be not less than 17 years of age and must not be past their 23rd birthday by 1 July of the year in which they enter the Air Force Academy.
3. Be proficient in reading, writing and speaking contemporary English.
4. Have an acceptable academic record.
5. Achieve qualifying scores on the College Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing (ACT). SAT Math scores below 560 or ACT Math and Science Reasoning scores below 25 are not competitive.
6. Be in good health and free of any communicable disease. In addition, each nominee must have good vision and be free of major dental problems.
7. Pass the Candidate Fitness Assessment which consists of pull-ups, push-ups, crunches, shuttle run, basketball throw and mile run.

Nominations
In order to be considered for admission to the United States Air Force Academy you must be nominated by your country. Nominations from your government are processed through the United States Defense Attaché Office/American Embassy serving your country. Nominations must be received by the Air Force Academy by 31 December for the class entering the following June.

To apply for a nomination, write your country’s government. Your letter should contain complete details about your background and your potential for success at the Academy. It should be received at least one year prior to the date of admission. The Defense Attaché Office at the American Embassy can direct you to the correct ministry in your country. DO NOT apply directly to the Air Force Academy or other United States government officials.

Admissions Forms
Upon receipt of your nomination, Air Force Academy Admissions will send a letter to the Defense Attaché Office at the American Embassy with complete instructions for you to complete your application. The Defense Attaché Office (DAO) will help you complete all required forms as soon as possible. They will then send all required documents to the Air Force Academy on your behalf.

Required Evaluations
You will be interviewed and be evaluated by an American Officer. Additionally, you will be required to complete a Writing Sample answering questions about yourself and your motivation to attend the Air Force Academy.

Required Tests
The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) reasoning test or the American College Test (ACT) college entrance examination is required for admissions. Admissions will only accept the SAT reasoning test, not the SAT subject tests. The Academy automatically uses whichever test produces the higher scores. The highest scores from different testing dates are used, but SAT and ACT scores will not be combined.

Note that the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is not currently required; however your skill in speaking, reading and writing English, and your overall ability to communicate effectively is significant in our decision process. If selected to attend the Academy, you must be able to read, write and speak English proficiently. English language instruction will be provided during the first semester of your fourth-class (freshman) year.

The College Board International Education Office in Washington D.C. represents College Board programs to international audiences and serves as an information link and liaison to overseas educational advisers, counselors at international schools and U.S. college and university staff involved in international student recruitment activities.

TEST REGISTRATION INFORMATION
The SAT code for the Air Force Academy is 4830. Students may register online at http://sat.collegeboard.org/register/sat-international-dates.

The ACT code for the Academy is 0530 and should be entered on the registration form. Registration instructions and international test center information is available online athttp://www.actstudent.org/regist/outside.html.

Medical Clearance
We require a statement signed by a physician certifying that you do not have a communicable disease and that you are in good health, have good vision and are free of major dental problems.

Appointments
All required documents must be received by Academy Admissions by 31 March, however, your Defense Attaché Office may have an earlier deadline. Appointments to the Air Force Academy are awarded on a competitive basis and are made in April of each year.

Student Status
Except as the Secretary of the Air Force determines, an international cadet is subject to the same regulations governing admissions, discipline, resignation, discharge, dismissal and graduation as all cadets at the Air Force Academy appointed from the United States.

International students who meet degree requirements will be awarded a Bachelor of Science degree, however, they are not commissioned in the United States Air Force. If they do not meet the requirements for the award of the Bachelor of Science degree upon completion of the four-year program, they will be given a certificate of completion, which will state that they attended the United States Air Force Academy.

Should an international student be judged unable to profit by the academic course, become deficient in conduct or in aptitude or commit an offense for which another cadet would be dismissed, the Department of the Air Force will request they withdraw from the Air Force Academy.
